Jonathan’s Ridge

R465.00

Due to small size berries and long maceration on skins this wine has a more intense and more complex aroma profile. It is rich, full bodied with attractive black and red berry aromas, subtle oak spice, and sweet nuances of caramel.
The specific Single Vineyard vines are (almost) constantly exposed to strong and cool winds from the Atlantic Ocean. The top soil is shallow, with deep, soft limestone rocks in which most of the roots is established and draws minerals from.

Tasting Notes

This is a gorgeous, single-vineyard pinotage with aromas and flavors of crushed blackberries and plums. Full-bodied with round, creamy tannins and an intense and very rich finish. It goes on for minutes with spice and earth undertones. An opulent yet fresh example of this. Drink or hold.

– James Suckling // 94 Points // 2015

Dark purple red with violet hue and black core. Opulent nose with distinct fruit, blackberries, black cherries, stewed plums, hints of liquorice and violets. On the palate excellent balance, ripe tannins with good structure, freshness, well expressed fruit and fine gingerbread spices. A wine with power, yet elegant with great precision and very good potential for future ageing.

– Markus Del Monego // 95 Points // 2015

Outstanding intensity of blackberries and blue slate on the nose. Medium body, round and juicy tannins and a succulent, savory finish with orange-peel undertones. Subtle pinotage. Drink or hold.

– James Suckling // 92 Points // 2016

A rich pinotage with aromas of plums, roasted meat, baking spices and rosemary. It’s full-bodied with sleek tannins. Polished and racy with crisp acidity. Pretty chocolate, mocha and spice notes on the flavorful and intense finish. Drink or hold.
